Old Ironsides 10th & S Streets
Sacramento
Old Ironsides is the real deal.
I don’t really know the folks that own it, but as the stained glass window by the door will tell you it’s the Bordisso family and they’ve been running the place since 1934. Probably would’ve been earlier, but that whole prohibition thing got in the way.
As Sacramento fills up with annoyingly modern “ultra euro lounges” it’s nice to have an unpretentious classic like Old Ironsides standing its ground. (more…)
If you’re looking for a drunken mess on St. Patrick’s Day – and who isn’t – then you’ll want to hit up the big block party on L Street outside of DeVere’s Irish Pub. Perhaps you’ve seen this mentioned in the papers because stuffy folks who actually want to get work done on that day are upset about the road being blocked off and the day long ruckus. Toughen up folks, it’s just one day of youthful exuberance and fun. You can be a boring stuffypants the rest of the year.
For something a bit more family friendly there’s the Old Sacramento St. Patrick’s Day parade. It should involve kazoos, horses and the throwing of candy.
And there’s free corned beef and cabbage at a whole bunch of dive bars (Socal’s and Pine Cove come to mind). You really just can’t go wrong.
See that little bar of page tabs up there? The one right under my picture that says “Home” “About” and now “Sacramento Cheat Sheet”?
Well, I just added that cheat sheet one. Not too proud of it, but at least it’s something. Go ahead and click on it if you like getting your hopes up just to be disappointed.
