Uncle Vito’s Slice fo NY
16th Street between O & P
Last week, the ABCs of Drinking brought me to the letter U. It turns out there are not many places to drink in town that start with the letter U, but luckily, before I cracked open a tallboy ”under a train bridge” I remembered Uncle Vito’s Slice of NY.
I’m pretty sure that there isn’t actually an Uncle Vito and I’m not sure why pizza places feel the need to pretend to be from New York. NEWS FLASH: The pepperoni doesn’t know what city it’s in.
Outside of the tired fake Italian name, Uncle Vito’s is solid option. The happy hour deal of a slice of pepperoni and a pint of PBR for $5 is reason enough to love this place.
The pizza is tasty too, but I should let you know that I have loved every single slice of pizza I have ever had in my entire life. That includes Hot Pockets, Pizza Rolls and pepperoni flavored Combos.
Uncle Vito’s is located in the back section of Pronto and a good trick if Vito’s is crowded is to order your slice and then smuggle it into Pronto’s superior dining area. I think they are cool with this.
When I was there I ate this:
It appeared that for my pepperoni and olive slice they simply took a handful of olives and threw haphazardly onto a slice of pepperoni which had been made earlier. For the record, that system is a-ok with me.
At all slice places they always reheat your slice to the temperature of the sun so you can really get a nice burn on the roof of your mouth. Personally, I like room temperature pizza and I always think to myself that the next time I order a slice I’m just going to ask them forgo the reheating process, but then when I’m actually at the pizza place I always forget. Don’t I have some good stories?
Uncle Vito’s is also open late night so if you’re out at nearby watering holes like the Shady Lady, R15, Simon’s or – even more conveniently – at Vito’s bar, this is a great dining option.
Oh and if Uncle Vito actually does exist, I apologize. Please do not “whack” me while you’re wearing your pin-striped with a fedora and saying “fuhgedaboutit” over and over again.

* All you can eat pizza for $7

CLIENTELE
A nice mix of folks were int there when I went. During the day, you’ll find midtown workers and kids and at night you’ll find hungry night owls.
